Ram Mandir inauguration: Ayodhya to get electric cars for public transport, including Tata Tigor EV - Report
Ayodhya Ram Mandir pilgrims will be transported by Tata Tigor EVs and electric golf carts
As India prepares for the inauguration of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, the Ayodhya Development Authority (ADA) is taking steps to promote electric mobility for pilgrims. In collaboration with the Uttar Pradesh government, the ADA has organized electric cars and electric golf carts to ensure pollution-free transportation during the event. Additionally, the city is upgrading its electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure with the assistance of Tata Power, which will establish EV charging stations at various locations in the city in the coming months.
As part of the plan to manage the influx of pilgrims and tourists, the ADA has introduced 15 electric cars, all of which are Tata Tigor EVs manufactured by Tata Motors. The ADA's preference for Tata Tigor EVs is attributed to their manufacturing under the Make in India initiative. The Tata Tigor EV, currently the only electric sedan in the subcompact segment, boasts a driving range of 315 kilometers on a single charge, as per ARAI.
In addition to electric cars, a Chinese manufacturer has provided electric golf carts in Ayodhya, particularly for the convenience of elderly pilgrims. These golf carts, which were part of the Deepotsavu program last year, can transport up to six passengers at a time, connecting Hanumangarhi and the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi temple complex.
Furthermore, the Uttar Pradesh government has announced that pilgrims and tourists will benefit from an electric vehicle transportation service between Lucknow and Ayodhya. This service, currently operated through a private partnership between the ADA and a third party, aims to deploy a fleet of 200 e-vehicles, prioritizing zero carbon emission transportation.
The My EV Plus cab service, part of this initiative, charges Rs 3,000 for a one-way fare between Lucknow and Ayodhya, with a minimum fare of Rs 250 for up to 10 km. This move towards electric mobility not only contributes to environmental sustainability but also aligns with efforts to manage the transportation needs of pilgrims and tourists during the significant event in Ayodhya.
Tata Power has recently entered into an agreement with the Ayodhya Development Authority to enhance electric mobility in the sacred city of Ayodhya. Under this collaboration, Tata Power will install electric vehicle (EV) charging points at various locations across the city. Some of the designated places for setting up EV charging points in Ayodhya include:
-
Survya Kund
-
Guitar Ghat
-
Amaniganj MLCP
-
In front of Jalkal Department
-
Kaushesh Kunji
-
MLCP near Ayodhya railway station
-
Tedhi Bazar
-
MLCP on the east and west side of Ayodhya Collectorate Office
-
MLCP in Ayodhya
This initiative aims to contribute to the development of electric mobility infrastructure in Ayodhya, providing convenient and accessible charging points for electric vehicles in key areas of the city. It aligns with the broader goal of promoting sustainable transportation and reducing the environmental impact of vehicular emissions in Ayodhya.
Tata Tigor EVs, electric golf carts to ferry pilgrims to Ayodhya Ram Mandir
In anticipation of the grand opening of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, the Ayodhya Development Authority (ADA) has taken proactive steps to promote electric mobility for pilgrims. Collaborating with the Uttar Pradesh government, the ADA has introduced electric cars and golf carts to ensure environmentally friendly transportation during the event. Furthermore, Ayodhya is set to strengthen its electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure with Tata Power establishing EV charging stations across the city.
As part of the initial phase of their plan to manage the influx of pilgrims and tourists, the ADA has incorporated 15 electric cars. These vehicles, all Tata Tigor EVs manufactured by Tata Motors, are designed to accommodate four passengers each. The ADA expressed a preference for the Tata Tigor EVs due to their manufacturing under the Make in India initiative.
The Tata Tigor EV stands out as the only electric sedan in the sub-compact segment, boasting an ARAI-rated driving range of 315 km on a single charge. With a dust and water-resistant IP67-rated battery pack of 26 kWh capacity, the electric motor produces 74 bhp of power and 170 Nm of peak torque.
In addition to the electric cars, a Chinese manufacturer has provided electric golf carts in Ayodhya, operational since the Deepotsav program last year. These golf carts, accommodating up to six passengers, primarily cater to elderly pilgrims traveling between Hanumangarhi and the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi temple complex.
The Uttar Pradesh government has announced that pilgrims and tourists will benefit from an electric vehicle transport service between Lucknow and Ayodhya. Operated by ADA through a private partnership, the government is initiating the deployment of a fleet of 200 e-vehicles, emphasizing zero carbon emission transportation. The cab service, named My EV Plus, charges ₹3,000 per passenger for a one-way journey between the two cities, with a minimum fare of ₹250 for journeys up to 10 km.
